General Questions
New here? Start with the answers we get asked the most.
Why should I use a travel advisor instead of booking online?
You can cut your own hair, but should you? Booking online is the same idea. Your travel advisor does this for a living, has planned vacations like yours before, and knows the questions to ask and the details that matter. Instead of sorting through endless options and hoping you picked right, you have an expert who helps you make good decisions and handles the rest.
And the support does not stop once you book. If a flight is delayed, plans change, or something goes wrong while you are traveling, you have someone who knows your trip and can help you sort it out. You are not just getting a reservation. You are getting someone in your corner for the whole trip.
Does it cost more to book through Small World BIG FUN?
Working with a Small World BIG FUN advisor does not make your vacation more expensive. Advisors are compensated by the travel partners we work with when you book through us.
Some advisors may charge a separate planning or service fee depending on the trip and the level of service involved. If a fee applies, that’s always discussed with you upfront.
And it’s worth remembering what you’re getting. Someone who takes the time to know you, sorts through the options, connects the moving pieces, and brings firsthand travel experience plus the collective knowledge of an entire agency. That support doesn’t stop once your vacation is booked.
Can you help if I’ve already booked part of my vacation?
Absolutely, it’s worth reaching out. What we can do depends on what you booked, when you booked it, the travel partner involved, and what kind of help you need.
In some cases an existing reservation may be eligible to transfer to a Small World BIG FUN advisor so we can take it over and help you from there. If a transfer isn’t possible, we may still be able to help with other pieces of your trip, sometimes with a planning or service fee.
Every situation is a little different, so tell us what you have in place and where you need help.
Can my travel advisor help with airfare?
Yes. Your advisor can help you navigate the flight options that make sense for your overall travel plans.
Depending on the vacation, airfare may be included with your other arrangements or booked separately. Some advisors can book flights directly, and in other cases you may purchase your airfare yourself with guidance from your advisor.
Either way, we help you think through schedules, routes, connections, and timing so your flights work with everything else you have planned.
How will I work with my Small World BIG FUN advisor?
Small World BIG FUN is a fully remote travel agency, which means you can work with your advisor from wherever you are.
Your advisor takes the time to get to know you, how you like to travel, and what you’re looking for. Planning might happen over phone calls, email, text, or video, depending on what works best for the two of you.
Remote doesn’t mean impersonal. You have a dedicated travel professional who knows you and knows your trip.
Planning Your Trip
Dreaming, comparing, or ready to book? We’ve got you covered.
Do I really need to plan my vacation that far in advance?
It depends. Popular destinations, peak travel periods, larger groups, and trips with limited availability often benefit from booking well in advance. Planning early can give you more choices for flights, accommodations, activities, and other parts of your trip, while some vacations can come together much closer to departure.
Your travel advisor can help you understand when it makes sense to start planning based on where you want to go and when you want to travel.
Can you help me choose the right destination if I’m not sure where to go?
Absolutely. You don’t need to have your destination picked out before you reach out to us. Tell your travel advisor what you enjoy, who you’re traveling with, your budget, and what you want to get out of the trip, and they can recommend destinations that align with what you’re looking for.
Sometimes the best vacation starts with knowing what you want to experience rather than knowing exactly where you want to go.
Do you offer payment plans or flexible payment options?
Yes. Many vacations can be paid for over time rather than all at once, depending on the destination, travel supplier, and booking terms. Your advisor can explain the deposit and payment schedule for your specific trip so you know when payments are due and what to expect.
Can you help plan surprise vacations or special celebrations?
Absolutely. Whether you’re planning a surprise getaway, milestone birthday, anniversary, honeymoon, or another special occasion, your Small World Big Fun travel advisor can help coordinate the details while keeping the experience under wraps when needed.
Just let us know what you’re celebrating and who you’re surprising, and we’ll help you create a trip worthy of the occasion.
What if I don’t want every single minute of my vacation planned?
That’s completely fine. Your vacation doesn’t need to have an itinerary packed from morning to night. Your travel advisor can help you plan the experiences that matter most while leaving room for spontaneous plans, relaxing, or simply deciding what sounds good when you get there.
Preparing for Your Trip
A little preparation now makes vacation even more enjoyable.
What travel documents should I bring with me?
Travel document requirements are different for every trip, and your Small World BIG FUN advisor will point you toward the current requirements and trusted resources for your specific plans.
Depending on where you’re going, you may need a valid passport, government issued ID, visa, electronic travel authorization, or other documentation. Some destinations have passport validity requirements, and cruises can have their own rules depending on the itinerary.
Entry requirements are set by governments and can change, so each traveler is responsible for having the right documents. But you won’t be left wondering where to start.
Should I bring cash, credit cards, or both when traveling internationally?
Both is usually a good idea. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in many international destinations, but having some local currency can be helpful for smaller purchases or places that don’t accept cards. Your travel advisor can also share destination-specific guidance so you know what to expect before you go.
What should I expect going through immigration and customs?
Immigration and customs procedures vary depending on where you’re traveling, your itinerary, your connections, and your citizenship. You may go through immigration or customs at different points during an international trip.
Your Small World BIG FUN advisor can help you understand what to expect based on your itinerary and point you toward the right resources before you travel.
Should I exchange currency before I leave, or use an ATM once I arrive?
Either can work. Having a small amount of local currency when you arrive is helpful, and it’s worth checking with your bank before your trip to see whether they can order foreign currency for you.
ATMs are also a convenient way to get local currency once you land. Ask your bank ahead of time about international ATM fees and foreign transaction fees.
Airport exchange counters are handy when you need cash right away, but rates and fees are usually less favorable, so it’s worth looking at your other options first.
Will my cell phone work while I’m traveling internationally?
It depends on your phone and mobile plan. Many carriers offer international roaming or travel packages, while some travelers choose an eSIM or local SIM card instead. Check with your provider before leaving so you understand your coverage, rates, and options for staying connected.
Where can I find information about Disney's Disability Access Service (DAS)?
Disney’s Disability Access Service information can change, so we recommend reviewing the most current details directly from Disney. Your Small World BIG FUN advisor can help point you toward Disney’s official resources as you prepare for your vacation.
While You’re Traveling
Travel doesn’t always go exactly as planned, and that’s okay.
What should I do if my flight is delayed or canceled?
Contact your Small World BIG FUN travel advisor as soon as you know there’s a problem. If your flight is delayed or canceled, your advisor can help you understand your options and work through the next steps with you. Depending on the situation, that may include helping with rebooking, adjusting other arrangements, or coordinating with the appropriate travel supplier.
If you’re already at the airport, it’s also important to follow the airline’s instructions and check for any available rebooking options while your advisor helps you navigate the rest.
Who should I contact if I need help during my vacation?
Your Small World BIG FUN travel advisor is a great place to start. Since your advisor knows the details of your trip, they can help you figure out who needs to be contacted and what needs to happen next. Depending on the situation, they may coordinate with the airline, hotel, cruise line, tour operator, or another travel supplier on your behalf.
What happens if my travel plans change while I’m away?
Let your travel advisor know as soon as possible. Whether you need to change a hotel, adjust transportation, modify an activity, or deal with an unexpected change to your itinerary, your advisor can help you understand what options are available.
Changes are subject to the policies and availability of the travel suppliers involved, but having someone familiar with your trip can make navigating those changes much easier.
What should I do if I lose my passport while traveling internationally?
Contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate as soon as possible. They can help you understand the process for reporting your passport lost or stolen and applying for a replacement or emergency passport.
You should also let your travel advisor know what happened. While your advisor cannot replace your passport, they can help you navigate the travel arrangements that may need to change while you work through the situation.
What should I do in a travel emergency?
If you’re facing an immediate danger or medical emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency services first. Once you’re safe, let your travel advisor know what happened so they can help you work through any travel arrangements that need attention.
Your advisor can help coordinate with the appropriate travel suppliers and guide you through changes to your itinerary as the situation unfolds.
What happens if severe weather affects my trip?
Severe weather and unexpected events affect travel in different ways, and what happens next depends on your destination, travel partners, reservations, and any travel protection you have in place.
If something affects your upcoming trip, your Small World BIG FUN advisor can help you make sense of the information coming from your travel partners, talk through your options, and assist with the pieces of your vacation they booked.
This is one of the reasons we recommend considering travel protection. Your advisor can walk through the options with you during planning so you can decide what works for your trip.
Just for Fun
Not every travel question has to be serious.
What if my partner or spouse doesn't want to travel with me?
Then they don’t have to.
Not having someone who wants the same trip doesn’t mean you stay home. Travel solo, grab a friend, or join one of our Small World BIG FUN group trips and meet your travel crew along the way.
Some of the best trips start with deciding you’re going, whether anyone else is ready to pack a bag or not.
Is Disney really just for kids?
Absolutely not. Disney vacations look completely different without kids in tow. Incredible dining, festivals, lounges, entertainment, resorts, special events, cruises, tours, and yes, riding your favorite attraction three times because nobody can tell you not to.
Disney may bring out your inner kid, but you definitely don’t need to bring one with you.
Will I get bored on a cruise?
Only if you’re really committed to it.
Depending on the ship, your biggest problem may be choosing between the pool, a show, trivia, live music, a spa appointment, another meal, an activity you didn’t know existed, or doing absolutely nothing at all.
The trick is finding the right cruise for you, and that’s where your Small World BIG FUN advisor comes in.
What's one thing travelers always wish they'd packed?
A pair of shoes they actually like. Not the cute shoes. Not the shoes you swear are comfortable because you wore them to brunch that one time. The shoes you can walk in for hours without regretting every life decision that led you there. A portable charger is another one you’ll be very glad you packed when your phone is handling your tickets, maps, reservations, and approximately 900 vacation photos.
Are there any toll roads on the way to Hawaiʻi?
Only if you’re planning to drive across the Pacific. Hawaiʻi is part of the United States, but unfortunately, your car can’t make the trip with you. You’ll need to fly there first, then you can rent a car and explore the islands without worrying about toll roads. So, no toll booths, but definitely a plane ticket.
